June 2026 refused to be one story. On the western and southeastern coasts it was among the warmest Junes in 86 years of data: Paralimni & Protaras averaged a daytime 30.5°C — 2.8°C above the 1961–1990 normal, with only one hotter June since 1940. Polis Chrysochous (+2.7°C) and Paphos (+2.6°C) each had just two.
The centre of the island told a different story. Larnaca (+0.3°C) and Limassol (+0.6°C) were close to their long-term normals, Nicosia ran a moderate +1.6°C — and Troodos was actually cooler than a typical June, at 1.1°C below the 1961–1990 mean, with 71 hotter Junes on record. A month that felt hot on the beaches of Protaras was, up the mountain, gentler than usual.
The real heat arrived only at the very end: the month's hottest days clustered on 24 and 29–30 June, with Nicosia peaking at 38.4°C on the 30th.

A wet June to close a wet season
The generous 2025–2026 rain season carried into early summer. Troodos collected 26.3 mm against a June normal of 11.9 mm; Nicosia 17.4 mm against 9.2; Larnaca 8.3 against 3.4. For a month that is usually nearly dry, that is a notable surplus — a fitting coda to a season that ended well above normal.
Nights stayed civilised: no place recorded more than a single tropical night (a night that never drops below 25°C) — Limassol, Larnaca and Paralimni had one each, everywhere else zero. July has already changed that; on the night of 20–21 July, ten stations across the island stayed at 25°C or above.
